FAIRBANKS, AK — Confucius wrote “the way of the superior person is three-fold: virtuous, they are free from anxieties; wise, they are free from perplexities; and bold, they are free from fear.” That fairly well sums up the “Little Free Libraries” movement, a grassroots, here-and-there effort by superior people to place small, weather-tight collections of books in places where they can be freely shared and exchanged without concern of loss. Sarah Maxey writes that it began with Todd Bol who in 2009 built “a glorified birdhouse ... and filled it with books in honor of his late mother, a school teacher and avid reader. He placed the structure on his front lawn with a sign encouraging curious visitors to ‘Take a book. Leave a book.’” (Read More)
